Foundry Gear Recovery
Dearborn · Machinery & Equipment · Tons of obsolete gears and drivetrain iron rigged out of a shuttered foundry bay — skates, gantry, and one careful day.
The Job
When a Dearborn foundry consolidated lines, one bay was left holding forty years of obsolete gearing — bull gears, pinions, and gearbox housings, some still bolted to dead line shafts eight feet off the floor. The plant engineer’s rigging quote came in at five figures just to clear the bay. We did the whole extraction free, because the iron paid for the work.
Day one was the walk: load paths, floor ratings, and which shafts could come down in sections. Day two was the lift — gantry work, skates across the bay, and a lowboy rotation that never stopped the neighboring line. Every gear was weighed by grade, the plant got scale tickets for its asset-disposal file, and the bay was empty for the new install a week early.
